Texas rules out Colin Simmons for Ole Miss clash

Texas edge rusher Colin Simmons, who leads the nation in sacks and tackles for loss, was officially ruled out of the No. 19 Longhorns' game against No. 7 Ole Miss on Saturday night in Austin.

Simmons suffered an ankle injury in the fourth quarter of Texas' loss to Florida on Saturday. He has 10.5 sacks and 16 tackles for loss this year. His 31.5 career sacks are third in Texas history and the fourth most by an FBS player through his first three seasons over the past 20 years, behind Alabama's Will Anderson, Tennessee's Derek Barnett and Texas A&M's Myles Garrett.

The Longhorns also ruled out one of Simmons' potential replacements, freshman Richard Wesley, an edge rusher who was a five-star recruit and No. 8 overall in ESPN's 2026 class. Orangebloods reported Thursday that Wesley suffered a high ankle sprain and could be out for the remainder of the regular season.

Also on Thursday's SEC availability report, running back Hollywood Smothers was downgraded from probable to questionable.

Texas has fallen from No. 1 to No. 19 after consecutive losses to Oklahoma and Florida.
