Gabby Williams propels Valkyries to WNBA title with 30 points (1:26)

After coming into 2026 as 45-1 underdogs to win the WNBA Finals, the Golden State Valkyries captured their first title in just their second season in existence. Golden State's odds to do it again next season are much shorter, but sportsbooks around the country have not come to a consensus on who should be favored for the championship.

The Valkyries are the favorites to win the 2027 WNBA Finals at BetMGM, showing +300 odds, but at DraftKings, the Minnesota Lynx -- who notched the 2026 regular season's best record -- are the favorites at +310, while Caesars Sportsbook and FanDuel have the Las Vegas Aces favored at +340 and +360, respectively. The 2026 runner-up Atlanta Dream are within the top four at each of those sportsbooks, showing a short number of +400 at DraftKings.

Bookmakers have different rationales for where they placed each team on the Finals odds board. DraftKings director of sports operations Johnny Avello favored the Lynx despite their unceremonious end to the 2026 season and some offseason uncertainty.

"Minnesota's power rating is slightly above Las Vegas, Atlanta & Golden State," he told ESPN by email. "The pairing of last year's Rookie of the Year, Olivia Miles, and Napheesa Collier is lethal, as they are two MVP type players. Only concern is that Collier is a free agent, and could sign elsewhere. Atlanta is also marginally ahead of Golden State as they strengthen the team by getting Brionna Jones back, who played just nine games this past season."

Caesars Sportsbook's lead pro basketball oddsmaker, David Lieberman, noted that his book's power ratings are mostly the same from the end of the season and that "the championship odds mostly reflect the potential ceiling of each team" taking into account how things could shake out in the offseason.

Just outside the top tier are Caitlin Clark's Indiana Fever (+900 at DraftKings) and Paige Bueckers' Dallas Wings, who are a relatively long 14-1 at DraftKings but as short as +750 at BetMGM. There's also a wide range of odds on the New York Liberty, who are anywhere between +900 and 17-1 for the 2027 title after a relatively disappointing 2026 campaign that saw them come in as favorites.

Indiana has perennially been one of the most popular futures plays by public bettors since Clark joined the league, but Dallas has been encroaching on that territory since Bueckers' debut. Both teams bowed out of the 2026 playoffs in the first round, and bookmakers aren't putting too much stock into their championship aspirations just yet especially given other teams' talent and some potential roster changes.

"The Fever need to re-sign Kelsey Mitchell, or their odds will go even higher," Avello said. "We're not worried about the general public piling on them to win it all -- their liability wasn't as high as the prior two seasons. New stars continue to emerge in the league, which does take some of the attention off Clark."

The Wings, meanwhile, "are a young and exciting team, but it remains to be seen if they'll be able to play enough defense to truly compete for a title just yet, similar to the questions surrounding the Fever," Lieberman said. "I expect to see quite a lot of action on both teams throughout the offseason in the futures markets."

Avello also said DraftKings is wary of the Washington Mystics, who were a surprising playoff team this season after coming into the 2026 campaign with 150-1 championship odds. Washington's young core has them at 35-1 for the 2027 title at DraftKings and as short as 11-1 at BetMGM.

For all of the potential contenders atop the board, there is also a cadre of long shots at the bottom, with the Chicago Sky, Seattle Storm, Toronto Tempo and relocating Houston Comets coming in at 120-1, per DraftKings lines.
