Source: Fever hires Blazers' Sheri Sam as assistant GM

The Indiana Fever have hired Sheri Sam as assistant general manager, a source confirmed to ESPN on Friday.

Sam joins the Fever from the Portland Trail Blazers, where she had held the position of scouting manager since 2022. She played 10 years in the WNBA and won championships in Seattle (2004) and Detroit (2008).

Her responsibilities with the Trail Blazers included collegiate and professional player scouting and evaluation. The Fever had planned to invest in their scouting and analytics efforts, and the addition of Sam was one step in that direction.

Indiana remains without a team president and general manager after Kelly Krauskopf stepped down and Amber Cox was fired last week.

The Fever lost to the Las Vegas Aces in the first round of the playoffs after finishing with a 28-16 regular-season record and earning the No. 6 seed for the third consecutive season.

Sam's hiring was first reported by the Indy Star.
