Liverpool are looking to make it five wins on the bounce as they welcome Chelsea to Anfield in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

Andoni Iraola's side have started to find their feet after an unconvincing start to the season and face a Chelsea side who lost at home to Spurs in the Premier League for just the second time in 35 matches on Saturday.

Key to Liverpool's upturn in form has been the performances of some of their big-money signings.

Alexander Isak has scored six goals in seven Premier League games, Bradley Barcola has five goal involvements in his last three starts and Florian Wirtz scored the decisive goal in the Reds' 4-3 victory over Villarreal last week.

The German was forced off during Liverpool's 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion at the weekend, but Iraola said on Tuesday that he was optimistic that Wirtz would be available for the game against Chelsea.

"We still have to wait," Iraola said in his prematch news conference. "We train later. We want to [use] this last day. He was quite fine, Florian -- I'm quite optimistic that he will be available.

"And with Dom[inik Szoboszlai] and Victor [Muñoz], I'm not so sure. I don't want to say no, but I think it's going to be more difficult than Florian, yes."

Chelsea, meanwhile, will be looking to bounce back from defeat to Spurs, but will have to do so without Cole Palmer and João Pedro.

The former is suspended after being sent off on Saturday while the latter will be out for weeks with a thigh injury.
