Talking Points

Liverpool aim to maintain momentum

With four back-to-back wins in all competitions, Iraola's Liverpool will aim to maintain their momentum against Chelsea. After the loss against Manchester City after the international break, Liverpool won twice in the Champions League and Premier League. They are not a perfect team yet or are back to their dominating best, but they are showing plenty of promise and are managing to get the results.

They have faced some tough sides already in Bournemouth, Brentford, Brighton, Manchester City, Atletico Madrid and won all those games barring the Man City one. Iraola will be keen to show that this team is progressing under him by beating another tough team in Chelsea. The attacking players like Bradley Barcola, Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz have been impressive while at the back, Ronald Araújo and Jérémy Jacquet have been superb. It's a team that is improving and moving in the right direction. A place in the quarterfinal of the Carabao Cup will only increase the confidence.

Chelsea's struggle for consistency

Like Liverpool, Chelsea are trying to find their way under a head coach who was appointed at the start of the season. Under Xabi Alonso, the team has secured a few decent wins but are struggling to find consistency. They did well to win against Bournemouth and Everton but suffered a 2-0 loss to Tottenham at the weekend.

Thet team will also miss their key player in Cole Palmer who is suspended for the Liverpool game after picking up two yellows against Spurs. They will be without their starting keeper Emi Martinez while his replacement Mike Penders made a costly error which led to a Spurs goal. The availability of João Pedro is also not clear after he missed the weekend game due to an injury he suffered while training.

Alonso knows his return to Anfield will be a challenging affair. They will miss a few key players while trying to bounce back from a bad loss over the weekend.
