What is the Socceroos' best result at a World Cup?

Australia has reached the Round of 16 at a men's World Cup twice, on both occasions falling to the eventual champion. In Germany in 2006, the Socceroos beat Japan 3-1 and drew 2-2 with Croatia, before falling 1-0 to Italy in the Round of 16. At Qatar 2022, the Socceroos beat both Tunisia and Denmark 1-0 to book a date with Argentina in the knockout stage, a match they would lose 2-1.

Mark Schwarzer is the most capped Socceroo of all time, having made 109 appearances for his country between 1993 and 2013.
