Eagles pass rusher Jalyx Hunt (leg) unlikely vs. Panthers

PHILADELPHIA -- It would be "pretty miraculous" for Eagles edge rusher Jalyx Hunt to play Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said.

Hunt sustained ankle and knee injuries on the final play of the first half against the Jacksonville Jaguars last week. His left leg got pinned under him and twisted awkwardly as he attempted to recover a loose ball following a fourth-down stop from teammate Zack Baun. Hunt stayed on the ground for some time before exiting with the assistance of trainers.

"He's the kind of guy, he's going to be pushing the envelope and making the medical people clear him," Fangio said. "He's not going to be one of those guys that's going to be hesitant to come back."

Fellow edge rusher Jonathan Greenard was not able to suit up against the Jaguars after testing his injured ankle pregame. Fangio said "hopefully he'll be able to go this week" when asked about Greenard's status for the Panthers game.

The Eagles could be getting reinforcements on offense with receiver DeVonta Smith and running back Saquon Barkley on the mend from hamstring injuries.

"I'm hopeful," coach Nick Sirianni said Monday. "I just think it's hard to tell you one thing and then it plays out differently because there's still a lot of time left for this game. But I'm hopeful that these -- I know how hard these guys work to get themselves back because it's killing them that they're not out there."

The running back room in particular could use a boost with Tank Bigsby (abdomen) on injured reserve and Will Shipley expected to miss multiple weeks after suffering a partial plantar fascia tear during the Jaguars game, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The safety position is another to keep an eye on. Marcus Epps missed the Jacksonville game with a groin injury, and Michael Carter II exited Sunday with an abdominal injury and did not return.
