LANDOVER, Md. -- Washington Commanders defensive end/linebacker Dorance Armstrong has been suspended without pay for the season opener for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy.
According to a statement from the NFL, Armstrong's suspension will begin Aug. 30 and he'll be eligible for reinstatement on Sept. 14.
Washington plays at Philadelphia in the season opener and at Dallas in Week 2.
Armstrong has yet to practice with the full defense while still recovering from a torn ACL he sustained in Week 7 last season. He led Washington with 5.5 sacks at the time of his injury.
Armstrong opened training camp on the physically unable to perform list but was activated on Aug. 7.
He has been working in individual drills.
Armstrong will play outside linebacker in the Commanders' base defense and end in their nickel defense.
Washington signed Odafe Oweh and K'Lavon Chaisson in free agency for similar roles.
