The Dallas Mavericks have agreed on a two-way NBA deal with former first-round pick Walter Clayton Jr., sources told ESPN's Shams Charania on Wednesday.
Clayton was waived earlier this week by the Memphis Grizzlies ahead of the league's roster cut-down deadline. He is joining the Mavericks after clearing waivers.
Memphis acquired Clayton from Utah on Feb. 3 in the eight-player trade that sent Jaren Jackson Jr., Jock Landale, John Konchar and Vince Williams Jr. to the Jazz. Clayton played 24 games for the Grizzlies last season after the trade, averaging 9.7 points, 2.1 rebounds and 5.7 assists and shooting 36.6% from 3-point range.
Clayton, 23, was the No. 18 pick in the 2025 draft after helping Florida win its third national title. He was named the Final Four's Most Outstanding Player and was a consensus first-team All-American in 2025.
The Mavericks, still light on ball handlers despite the return of Kyrie Irving from his ACL injury, could use the depth Clayton provides in their backcourt.
