Kon Knueppel, Coby White out for Hornets' season opener

The Charlotte Hornets will be without guards Kon Knueppel and Coby White as well as veteran forward Grant Williams as they open their season Wednesday at the Brooklyn Nets.

Knueppel, who was the first rookie to lead the league with 273 made 3-pointers last season, injured his left hamstring during offseason on-court activity and missed the entire preseason.

White suffered a left calf strain Oct. 5 during training camp and missed the remainder of preseason.

Williams was ruled out for all four of Charlotte's preseason games because of a right hamstring injury.

The team said Tuesday that all three players have resumed individual on-court activity.

The Hornets are hoping to rely on Knueppel and White this season after trading LaMelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves over the summer. Knueppel averaged 18.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 42.5% 3-point shooting as a rookie.

The Hornets acquired White from the Chicago Bulls in February, and he went on to have a strong finish to the season with his new team. He was the hero in the team's play-in victory over the Miami Heat, scoring 19 points and hitting the turnaround 3 late in regulation to force overtime. He signed a three-year, $74 million contract with Charlotte over the summer.

Williams has averaged 7.2 points and 3.7 rebounds per game during his seven seasons.
