Thomas Tuchel has said Cole Palmer was left out of his latest England squad because "we have enough No. 10s" and reiterated his warning that players must "walk the walk" by showing full commitment to the cause.
Tuchel announced a 25-man squad on Friday for Nations League games against Croatia and Spain which included Jude Bellingham's brother Jobe for the first time in addition to Fulham's Josh King and Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White.
However, there was no place for Palmer after the England boss responded to the 24-year-old's withdrawal from the previous squad by claiming "he misses too many camps."
Palmer has played just three times for England in the past two years with his most recent appearance coming in March's 1-0 home defeat to Japan.
Both Bellinghams, Morgan Rogers, Gibbs-White, King and Eberechi Eze could all theoretically play as an advanced attacking midfielder.
"It's enough No. 10s, and we stick to the guys who were in the last camp because camp was excellent," explained Tuchel when speaking at Wembley.
"We were happy with the last two-and-a-half weeks that we had together. The impact of all the players was immense, throughout the whole camp, and that's why we stick mainly with the group, and we stick with all the offensive players.
"We have Josh King as a new player in there. I want to see him on both wings. He's kind of an extra player that we use, of course, that we have for training numbers, and we can cover all eventualities because Josh can play all four positions, and that's basically the reason.
"I guess everyone is desperate to play for England, and Cole is no exception. We're speaking now about the player who is not in camp, and on the other hand, it counts when you are in camp.
"And I just said it last time. He misses too many opportunities to impress. It was a long camp. It was two and a half weeks, and the players and the boys who were in camp built something extraordinary throughout these two and a half weeks, and that's why the credit goes to them.
"The trust is for them. If you are in camp, this is your chance to impress. So it's not personal, and of course we will never assume that Cole is not in the mindset to come and desperate to play for his country. But the competition is on, and the players who were in camp did an amazing job and kept their place."
Jobe, 21, joined Borussia Dortmund from Sunderland last summer and has featured 12 times for England Under-21s but had never previously been called up to the seniors.
"In general, it's an incredible achievement for the family and for the brothers to be both nominated for their national team is an incredible story in itself," Tuchel said.
"I was very happy to give him the call up, and I saw his excitement straight away, and his smile. He's a very open and calm personality. So it was a very nice phone call, of course, because it was very good news."
Tuchel suffered a spate of withdrawals for the September/October camp with Palmer, Declan Rice, Tino Livramento, Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford all pulling out.
Rice has returned with his previous absence explained as "load management" and Tuchel revealed he has a standby list but does not expect a similar situation this time.

"I have a little standby list and the players and the clubs they know it, that they are on this standby list," he said. "Players who cover us in a lot of positions but on the other hand we have 22 players so we are prepared for one or two injuries.
"That should not affect us because it is very, very short camp with two crucial matches. It is a short time so we should be fine number-wise.
"The best reactions to the withdrawals in the last camp from the players who were in camp was just to put the quality in and make it a successful camp. That's the best foundation for the next camp, to have less withdrawals, which is actually happening now.
"It is always about the ones who are in camp, it is always the ones who don't withdraw and who walk the walk and come to camp and show that it matters and put the quality in. This is always what we will reward."
