Victor Osimhen warned of chaos ahead of Monday's Istanbul derby against Fenerbahce, and it duly arrived after the final whistle, as the Nigeria striker scored both goals in Galatasaray's 2-1 victory.

As the striker had predicted, things took a not-unexpected turn at the final whistle as the celebrations were accompanied by confrontations on the field. Fenerbahce's Archie Brown and Galatasaray's Abdülkerim Bardakçi among those involved as others attempted to separate them.

It was a situation that left Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk with some regret: "I wish these were things that didn't have to happen, because the match itself went by quite cleanly.

"But then these events occurred, as soon as the match ended. We tried to separate our players. We try to pull them out of the situation.

"It was very chaotic, but unfortunately, these tensions at the end of the match, especially the players of the losing team, can manifest this tension even more, but these are things that are part of football.

"Unfortunately, the match ended this way. The necessary penalties regarding this will be given."

The brace took Osimhen's tally to five goals in six appearances against Fenerbahce. He is unbeaten in those games, with four wins and two draws.

With the latest three points secured, the Nigerian turned his attention to Galatasaray's ambitions beyond the derby.

"Winning derbies is important if you want to become champions," he said in his post-game interview.

"We managed to win this huge derby and take the three points.

"We want to lift every trophy, whatever the competition. We followed the coach's instructions correctly. We earned a deserved three points."

Before the trouble, Osimhen had put Galatasaray in control with goals in the 29th and 44th minutes at RAMS Park. Irfan Can Kahveci pulled one back in the 62nd, but the hosts held on to win the first league meeting between the rivals this season.

Osimhen credited the home supporters with helping Galatasaray secure the victory: "We're happy with the team, the performance and the fans. Our supporters unsettled the opposition and gave us tremendous support."

For Buruk, the result added to the confidence his side has developed from previous meetings with Fenerbahce.

"In these four years, we have always competed with Fenerbahce, and because they are our primary rival, we always made plans to win against them, both in the Turkish Cup and the League," he said.

"And these plans of ours always work. This, of course, also brings a sense of self confidence, psychologically, sometimes you go into these types of matches feeling superior.

"You trust yourself more. You can experience this when you keep winning against the same team."

Osimhen exchanged passes with Baris Alper Yilmaz for the opener before heading in Galatasaray's second following a long throw from Ismail Jakobs. Between those goals, he forced a save from Éderson after running onto a pass from Aleksey Batrakov.

Osimhen says that understanding with Batrakov has involved work away from the pitch, with studying the midfielder's previous games to learn how to anticipate his passes.

"I watched Batrakov's previous matches. We talk before games, and I have come to understand what he will do depending on where I move," he said.

"I watched how he linked up with other strikers at his previous clubs. He explained the runs I could make. If he were at another club, I would be jealous."

Batrakov joined Galatasaray from Lokomotiv Moscow in August on a five-year contract and the Super Eagles forward has been impressed by the midfielder's efforts both on and off the pitch.

"Batrakov is an exceptional, incredible player and an incredible person. He brings good vibes to the dressing room, too," Osimhen said. "He is trying to learn everything about the country and Galatasaray.

"He is trying to get to know the club's legends. Our coach has put his trust in him, too. It feels as though he has been here for two years, even though he has only been here for two months."

Osimhen hoped Batrakov will continue to contribute as their partnership develops: "I hope he never gets injured and continues to help us. I wish him all the best. I hope he scores more goals and provides more assists."

The striker also reaffirmed his commitment to Galatasaray, again addressing discussions before the derby.

"There was talk this week before the match. I love this club. I always say that. I will give everything for this club. I don't pay attention to social media. I see the fans," he said.

"Galatasaray supporters have always been behind me since I arrived. They have supported my family, me and my friends. I focus on the fans' support rather than things that don't matter. I focus on my team. I believe we will achieve even greater success."
