DAYTON, Ohio (AP) -- Kevin Hoyng threw three touchdown passes and caught one to lead Dayton to a 42-21 victory over Albany Saturday.
Ben Shappie ran for two scores and threw the TD pass that Hoyng caught for the Flyers, the champions of the Pioneer League who were matched against the champions of the Northeastern Conference.
Hoyng was 34-of-45 passing for 316 yards, including three-second half TD passes of 1 and 6 yards to Matt Champa and 17 yards to Jack O'Dell as the Flyers (11-1) ran off 21 straight points to break a 14-14 tie.
Shappie ran for 62 yards on 13 carries. His 1-yard TD run was the first score of the game and he ended the scoring with a 6-yard run in the fourth quarter.
On his TD pass, Shappie took the pitch from Hoyng, ran to the right and threw back across the field to Hoyng for the 8-yard TD.
J. Michael Jonard had nine catches for 54 yards for the Flyers. Champa and O'Dell had eight catches apiece.
David McCarthy ran for 134 yards on 16 carries for Albany, including a 63-yard run with 14:03 left in the third quarter that tied the game at 14.
Vinny Esposito was 10-of-18 passing for 132 yards for Albany and had one TD, a 42-pass to Mike Wall in the second quarter. Esposito also ran for 25 yards for Albany (8-4).
