Michigan State starting running back Cam Edwards will miss the rest of the season after sustaining an apparent right knee injury in Saturday's loss to Nebraska.
Coach Pat Fitzgerald confirmed the outlook for Edwards, a senior transfer from UConn who had been the focal point of MSU's offense early this year. Edwards sustained the injury on a first-quarter run when he took a hit from Nebraska's Danny Odem III along the Spartans sideline. He was carted off and later appeared with crutches.
"Obviously, we're disappointed for him," Fitzgerald said. "He's been absolutely outstanding. I was just talking to him as we walked off the field. His attitude is terrific, ready to attack whatever direction things are going to go."
Edwards led Michigan State with 304 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 64 carries, after rushing for 2,690 yards and 27 touchdowns during the previous three seasons for UConn.
Michigan State will turn to Jaziun Patterson and others at running back with Edwards out. The team visits Wisconsin this week.
