Panthers get fifth, sixth round compensatory draft picks

PHOENIX -- The Carolina Panthers on Monday at the NFL owners meeting were awarded compensatory picks in the fifth and sixth rounds of the 2015 draft.

The picks were the result of the complicated NFL system that takes into consideration unrestricted free agents lost, the annual value of those contracts, playing time and performance versus the same for free agents gained.

Carolina lost safety Mike Mitchell (Pittsburgh), cornerback Captain Munnerlyn (Minnesota), wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. (Arizona) and wide receiver Brandon LaFell (New England) to free agency last year.

They acquired cornerback Antoine Cason, tight end Ed Dickson, quarterback Joe Webb and wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery. Cason did not last the entire season.

Carolina now has nine draft picks, beginning with No. 25 in the first round.
