Yamal breaks Mbappé's teenage Champions League goals record

Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal overtook Kylian Mbappé to become the highest-scoring teenager in Champions League history with his strike in a 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Tuesday.

Yamal, 19, capitalised on a Villa mistake to open the scoring in the seventh minute at Spotify Camp Nou, bending the ball past Zion Suzuki to register his 14th goal in the competition.

Raphinha went on to add a pair of goals as the LaLiga champions outclassed Villa to hand the visitors their first loss of the League Phase and provisionally move up to second in the table.

Real Madrid forward Mbappé, who now has 72 goals in the Champions League, was previously the teenager to have netted the most times with 13.

Yamal's 14 goals have come in just 37 appearances, during which time he has broken a number of other Champions League records.

He remains the youngest player to ever start a game in the Champions League proper. He was aged just 16 years and 83 days when he made his full European debut against Porto.

The Spain international is also the youngest player to score and assist in a Champions League game, the youngest to score in a semifinal and the player with the most goals before his 18th (5) and 19th (11) birthdays.

However, he is no longer the youngest player to appear in the knockout stages of the competition after being overtaken by Max Dowman earlier this year.

Yamal, who finished third in the Ballon d'Or last week behind Harry Kane and Mbappé, has made a fine start to the new campaign.

In 15 appearances in all competitions, he has scored 13 goals and provided 11 assists.
