Newcastle United pulled off an impressive 2-0 win away to Crystal Palace, with second-half goals from Harvey Barnes and William Osula propelling Matthias Jaissle's side to seventh in the table. Another defeat has increased the pressure on Pierre Sage, whose side are now a point and a place above the relegation spots.
It was Palace who started the better, with Jean-Philippe Mateta and Axel Disasi going close from a goalmouth scramble but Lukas Horniceck and the Newcastle defenders kept it goalless. It was a first half of few chances as Newcastle barely offered a threat, while Palace couldn't trouble Hornicek thereafter as the game remained goalless at the break.
Jaissle's side came out storming in the second half, and broke the deadlock in the 47th minute. Jacob Murphy produced a peach of the cross from the right, sending in a teasing ball that William Osula turned in with a volley from close range. Newcastle remained on top, and saw another goal ruled out soon after, with Joe Willock curling into the bottom corner only for VAR to rule it out.
Newcastle doubled their lead in the 58th minute, when Amar Dedic sent in a low cutback from the right wing to the penalty spot, where Harvey Barnes was on hand to run onto the pass and rifle the ball home. Palace remained a threat, forcing Hornicek into saves later on, but Newcastle held on to triumph 2-0, inflicting yet another defeat on Palace.
