Robson: Real Madrid's quality up top was too much for RB Leipzig (0:59)

MADRID -- José Mourinho said Real Madrid's fans "went home happy" thanks to stunning goals from Yan Diomande and Kylian Mbappé in the team's 4-1 win over RB Leipzig on Wednesday.

A close-fought first half saw Madrid go in ahead at the break thanks to Bernardo Silva's goal, before the home side pulled away at the Bernabéu thanks to Arda Güler, Mbappé and Diomande.

Madrid's record signing Diomande replaced Vinícius Júnior -- who again drew some whistles from the crowd -- on 70 minutes and delivered the game's highlight, volleying Brahim Díaz's pass into the top corner.

It was Diomande's third goal in his last four games for Real Madrid, after failing to score in his first eight appearances since his transfer from Leipzig worth a potential €140 million ($189m) this summer. The Ivory Coast international also had an assist on Mbappé's goal.

"The fans went home happy, watching the duo of Mbappé and Diomande," Mourinho said after the match. "They bought their tickets, and they go home happy."

Mourinho denied that he'd introduced Diomande with Sunday's LaLiga Clasico in mind, with Vinícius suspended for the clash in Barcelona.

"The intention wasn't thinking about the Clasico, it was thinking about this game," the coach said. "I knew a fresh Diomande, coming on with half an hour left, is difficult [to handle]. His speed is important."

"For me, Vini had a good game," he added. "Tactically, for his coach, he had a good game ... He could have scored a great goal, and their keeper made a great save. I wouldn't say he's sad, that's a feeling only he can explain, but his coach is happy."

"If he [Vini] is sad, it's because he wants to give a lot to the team, and to the fans," Mbappé told Movistar. "He needs to be calm, and proud of who he is. A great player has to be proud of who he is. His confidence will come back, because he has the quality."

Speaking later in his post-match news conference, Mourinho said the fans' whistling of Vinícius was unhelpful in the player's quest to find his best form.

The winger has been frequently targeted by some fans at the Bernabéu over the last year, even after signing a new long-term deal in the summer.

"When you're whistled away from home, it's a source of motivation," Mourinho said. "When you're whistled at home, it hurts you."
