Scott McTominay scores timely brace as Napoli overcome Bodo/Glimt

Scott McTominay scored twice for Napoli in a thrilling 4-3 home Champions League win against Bodo/Glimt to help ease the pressure on head coach Max Allegri.

Napoli had lost three of their first seven Serie A games and their opening two Champions League fixtures under Allegri this season, but McTominay's first goals since undergoing heart surgery in September gave his side a huge lift.

Matteo Politano's first-minute opener for Napoli was cancelled out by Jens Petter Hauge and Bodo levelled again through Andreas Helmersen after the hosts had regained the lead through McTominay.

The Scotland midfielder, who returned to action earlier this month after an operation to correct irregular heart rhythms, then headed Napoli back in front.

Bodo defender Odin Bjørtuft's late own goal gave Napoli a two-goal cushion before Sondre Fet stabbed home the visitors' third in time added on.

Napoli, who had lost to Arsenal and Villarreal in their previous two Champions League games, made an ideal start as they took the lead inside the opening minute through Politano's thumping finish.

The Italian side were dominant, but Bodo struck an equaliser against the run of play with their first effort on goal in the 27th minute as Hauge drilled an angled shot into the bottom corner.

McTominay combined with Kevin De Bruyne just before the break to fire Napoli back in front and Haikin produced another save to keep out Politano's shot before the break.

McTominay went close to his second when his 60th-minute shot hit a post before the visitors struck a second equaliser two minutes later, with Helmersen converting from inside the box.

Napoli continued to create chances and McTominay was not to be denied as he headed his side back in front from Politano's 75th-minute cross.

Bjortuft's own goal in the 88th minute all-but sealed Napoli the win before Fet's close-range finish deep in added time ensured a nervy finish.
