Arsenal boss Renée Slegers insists she can see 'light at the end of the tunnel'

Renée Slegers insists there is a "light at the end of the tunnel" after a rocky start to Arsenal's Women's Super League campaign.

The Gunners, who host Birmingham on Saturday, have won just one of their five WSL matches this season and sit 10th after the international break, putting Slegers under tremendous pressure to steady the ship.

The Dutchwoman, who was initially appointed interim boss two years ago -- and made permanent in January 2025 -- doubled down on her commitment to the club and resolve to steer Arsenal back on course.

"Of course, yeah, I love Arsenal, I love this team, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else," Slegers said.

"Even though it's been difficult, I see light at the end of the tunnel and I look forward. I feel that we are strong together and I look forward to Saturday.

"We're not happy with the results, but then there's a lot of positives as well in the way we play.

"The commitment in the background and the determination in the background has been inspiring, I think, for all of us. So everyone's come back now. You can see it, you can feel it, there's a sense of urgency and we look forward from here."

League leaders Manchester City hope to maintain their flawless start to the season when they host Brighton on Sunday.

It kick-starts a demanding run of fixtures against tough opponents, but boss Andrée Jeglertz said he has the squad depth to manage.

"This is what we wanted," the City boss said. "We wanted to play more games, we want to play Champions League, we want to play against the best teams.

"I think all of them are able to start. It's challenging a little bit with relationships on the pitch ... but the longer the season goes the better that will be."
