Getafe president: Deal for ex-Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal is off

Getafe's president said Wednesday that the club's proposed signing of former Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal is now off.

Carvajal, 34, has been without a club since his contract with Madrid expired in June.

Getafe president Ángel Torres previously said to DAZN: "We're working on it. He has passed a medical and everything. All that is missing is for LaLiga and me to reach an agreement."

But on Wednesday, Torres said "there's nothing, [the agreement] has broken down" when questioned about Carvajal's possible arrival.

Getafe, currently 11th in LaLiga, are based in the region of Madrid.

Carvajal, a youth product of Real Madrid, won 27 trophies, including a joint-record six Champions Leagues, in his 13 seasons at the Bernabeu stadium.

The Spain international struggled with injuries in recent campaigns.

He suffered a cruciate ligament tear in October 2024 and then another serious knee injury a year later, limiting to 23 his appearances for Los Blancos last season.
