Carlos Queiroz has been reappointed as Ghana men's head coach after initially taking the reins for a brief stint ending in a World Cup round of 32 exit, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced on Wednesday.
Queiroz was initially appointed in April -- two months before the World Cup in Mexico, Canada and the U.S. -- following the shock dismissal of Otto Addo. The Black Stars began the tournament with a 1-0 win over Panama and a 0-0 draw with England before a 2-1 defeat to Croatia in their last group stage game.
Ghana were subsequently beaten 1-0 by Colombia in the round of 32 in the last match of the former Real Madrid head coach and Manchester United assistant coach's first stint in charge. He has now been reappointed with a new contract agreed.
Neither terms of the contract nor Queiroz's technical team have been officially announced by the association. The Portuguese tactician's regular assistant, Roger De Sá, was unveiled by South African third-tier club Cape Town Spurs as their technical director and coach after the World Cup.
"The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with Carlos Queiroz for his appointment as Head Coach of the Black Stars for the next phase of the team's programme," said the GFA statement.
"Queiroz's previous mandate, which included leading Ghana at the just-concluded FIFA World Cup, concluded a few weeks ago. Following discussions with the GFA and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, it was agreed that Carlos Queiroz would embark on a new coaching mandate, commencing with the upcoming international window.
"The GFA believes Queiroz's extensive international experience, technical expertise and knowledge of the Black Stars position him strongly to lead the team into this next chapter.

"Further details on the new mandate and the Black Stars' upcoming programme will be announced in due course, as the GFA and Coach Queiroz turn their focus to building a successful new phase for Ghana on the international stage."
Ghana will play Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifiers against Ivory Coast on Sept. 23 and Gambia on Sept. 27 prior to a double-header against Somalia in November.
