Santiago Gimenez's season-long loan move from AC Milan to FC Porto was made official on Monday, Porto confirmed.
The Mexico forward, who has endured an injury-hit time with Milan since a $43 million transfer from Dutch club Feyenoord in Jan 2025, will spend the 2026-27 season at Estadio do Dragao ahead of a potential $23.2 million permanent move if he triggers an option to buy by meeting performance criteria.
Gimenez scored just seven goals in 37 Serie A appearances for Milan and has been allowed to leave San Siro due to new coach Ruben Amorim making clear that he will not figure in his plans with the Rossoneri following the summer arrival of Portugal forward Gonçalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain.
The 25-year-old moved to Milan ahead of Premier League interest after scoring 65 goals in two-and-a-half seasons with Feyenoord.
But with Porto offering the former Cruz Azul striker the chance to play in the Champions League -- Porto open up with a League phase clash at home to Manchester City on Sept. 8 -- Gimenez has accepted the move to the Liga Portugal leaders in an attempt to kick-start his career following his difficult 18 months in Italy.
Gimenez said he was excited to start a new chapter in his career.
"It was a very important decision because I want to continue writing my own story and feeling important," he said in a statement released by Porto. "Throughout my career, I've always played for great teams, and FC Porto is another one of them.
