Commentary
A most memorable return to the Champions League for Real Betis’ home fans as, after 21 years, they see their side come out on top of a five-goal second half thriller that barely gave you a second to breathe. The first half was forgettable, aside from a disallowed Porto goal from Fernandes, but a remarkable second half got off to a flyer when Ezzalzouli ran onto Garcia’s layoff on the corner of the penalty area and bent a magnificent 20 yard curler into the top corner. Veiga equalised with a 25-yard free-kick just six minutes later that Valles should have done better with, and seven minutes after that, Porto were slammed into an unlikely lead by Aghehowa’s first touch after coming on. It looked like Farioli’s side were heading for a first away win in Spain since 2014, until lovely wing play from Antony set up a tidy finish from another substitute, Hernandez, in the 74th minute. And then, with six minutes of normal time remaining, and tensions boiling over, Ortiz made an excellent run down the right flank and was tripped inside the area by Moura. Isco stepped up and converted the penalty to give Betis the lead. And if that wasn’t enough, there was still time for Valles to make amends for his earlier error, by pulling off one of the best reflex saves you’ll see in the final minute of injury time, pushing Gimenez’s header round the post. 1.59 xG for the hosts and seven shots on target shows their dominance, but Porto scored twice from 0.90 xG and had five shots of their own on Valles’ goal. Betis host Barcelona on the weekend as they look to maintain their exceptional start to the league season, while Porto host PSV Eindhoven next in the Champions League, with no league fixture this weekend. That’s all from Seville, thanks for following and we’ll see you next time!
FULL TIME: REAL BETIS 3-2 PORTO
Betis are so nearly there as a member of the Porto coaching staff is sent off by the referee...
That is outrageous!!!! Valles makes one of the best saves you'll see all season. Gimenez finds himself free inside the six yard box and does everything right to head the ball back across goal and down towards the corner, but Valles, who is going the other way, flings himself athletically backwards to stretch a hand out and tip it round the post. That defied belief.

Ortiz is booked for bringing down his winger on the halfway line to prevent the attack.
Brave defending in the penalty area from Garcia as he sticks his head into danger inside the six yard box as Froholdt attempts an overhead kick and catches the full back in the side of the head.
