Wests Tigers have emerged as a potential landing spot for veteran Newcastle forward Tyson Frizell, with the club interested in bringing the former NSW and Australia representative to Concord next season.
ESPN understands the Tigers have identified Frizell as a recruitment target as they continue to shape their roster for 2027.
Frizell, 34, is off contract at the end of the season and remains without a deal for next year as Newcastle turns its attention towards its finals campaign.
The experienced back-rower would add another hardened presence to a Tigers forward pack that has increasingly been built around a younger core.
Fonua Pole and Samuela Fainu have established themselves as key members of Benji Marshall's pack, while former Newcastle forward Kai Pearce-Paul joined the club this season and has added another long-term option on an edge.
Frizell would bring more than 300 games of NRL experience across Cronulla, St George Illawarra and Newcastle, along with an extensive representative resume for NSW and Australia.
Despite being in the latter stages of his career, Frizell has remained a reliable presence for Newcastle this season and continues to play significant minutes on an edge.
That experience would provide another senior presence for a Tigers roster preparing to undergo further change in 2027.
Jarome Luai will depart Concord at the end of the season to join Parramatta, leaving the Tigers without one of the most experienced members of their spine and leadership group.
The club has also fallen short of a long-awaited return to finals football this season, extending a drought that dates back to 2011.
The Tigers have already begun adding experience to their roster for next year, with Jayden Brailey set to arrive from Canberra, as exclusively reported by ESPN in July, while the club continues to survey the market in a bid to strengthen Marshall's squad.
Frizell has spent the past six seasons in Newcastle after joining the Knights from the Dragons ahead of the 2021 season.
