FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- The New York Jets will be without T'Vondre Sweat for at least the next four games, as the starting nose tackle was placed on injured reserve Saturday with a knee sprain.
The good news for Sweat is that it's not considered a season-ending injury, a source said. The 366-pound run stuffer will be eligible to return Nov. 29 against the Miami Dolphins.
Sweat already had been ruled out for Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders (3-4) at MetLife Stadium. His injury, which occurred last Sunday, comes at an inopportune time for the Jets, who have been struggling to stop the run. They're allowing 127.7 yards per game, 24th in the NFL.
Rookie Darrell Jackson Jr., a fourth-round pick from Florida State, is expected to replace Sweat in the lineup.
The Jets (2-5), losers of two straight, don't expect to have rookie edge rusher David Bailey (groin), who is doubtful for the game. To replace Sweat and Bailey on the game-day roster, they brought up Payton Page (signed to the roster) and Quinton Bell (elevation) from the practice squad, respectively.
The Jets are thin at defensive tackle. They're already down David Onyemata (core muscle surgery), who was placed on IR in Week 3.
Sweat was acquired in an offseason trade with the Tennessee Titans. After missing a chunk of training camp with a hamstring injury, he has appeared in all seven games, with no sacks, two tackles-for-loss and 17 total tackles.
