GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl returner KaVontae Turpin injured his rib on the opening kickoff of Sunday night's 23-13 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
Turpin sustained the injury on his 25-yard return after he was tackled awkwardly.
Turpin was examined on the sideline before heading to the locker room. He was replaced at kick returner by running back Tyler Goodson.
"The X-rays were clean, but there's a rib cartilage that he's dealing with," Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said after the game.
The Cowboys also lost linebacker Dee Winters to an Achilles strain with 13:14 left in the second quarter after the Packers converted on third-and-9. It came on the series after Winters gave the Cowboys their first interception of the season, coming away with a Jordan Love pass intended for Matthew Golden.
Winters was initially ruled to have scored a touchdown on a 42-yard return but that was overturned by replay. He was replaced by Shemar James and Justin Barron.
Turpin entered Sunday averaging 27.5 yards per kick return with a long of 48 yards and 11.1 yards on punts. Turpin has been named to the Pro Bowl three times -- 2022, 2024 and 2025 -- after joining the Cowboys from the USFL. He has had one kickoff return for a touchdown and one punt return for a score.
Offensively, Turpin has caught four passes for 39 yards and had two runs for 10 yards.
