Indianapolis Colts defensive end Arden Key was placed on injured reserve Saturday with a hamstring injury, meaning he will miss at least four games before returning to the active roster.
Key sustained the injury in Sunday's win over the Washington Commanders, prompting the Colts to seek solutions to the hole left in their defensive lineup. Key has played 64% of the Colts' defensive snaps this season.
The Colts signed veteran free agent Carl Lawson to their practice squad this week to add depth, but Lawson was not activated Saturday. Instead, the absence of Key will mean a bigger role for second-year player Jaylahn Tuimoloau and, possibly, rookie George Gumbs Jr.
Also Saturday, the Colts ruled out veteran wide receiver Darius Slayton for their Week 5 game at the Pittsburgh Steelers after he sustained a knee injury in Friday's practice. Slayton was possibly in line to make his debut after signing with the Colts last month. To address the position, Indianapolis promoted Nick Westbrook-Ikhine from the practice squad.
