Two suspects have been arrested and charged in connection to the hit-and-run that killed former UFC fighter Ryan Jimmo on June 26 in Edmonton, Canada.
Anthony Getschel, 23, and Jordan Wagner, 21, were arrested by Edmonton Police, who issued four charges against Getschel, including second-degree murder, and charged Wagner with accessory after the fact to murder.
According to an autopsy, Jimmo was killed as a result of blunt force trauma after he was allegedly run over by a pickup truck in the parking lot of the H20 Lounge in Edmonton. Police said the two suspects did not know Jimmo, but they engaged in a verbal argument prior to the incident. Jimmo was declared dead at a local hospital shortly after the incident. He was 34.
In addition to the second-degree murder charge, Getschel has been charged with criminal negligence causing death, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and failure to stop at scene of accident involving death. Both suspects allegedly fled the scene of the crime.
Jimmo (19-4) made his professional MMA debut in February 2007. He signed with the UFC in 2012, where he posted a 3-3 record until his release in June 2015. In his UFC debut, he tied the record for the fastest knockout in promotional history at seven seconds.
In recent years, Jimmo had become an outspoken advocate for fighters' rights, including higher wages.
