A ONE championship welterweight title fight between Ben Askren and Luis Santos will headline a Nov. 13 event in Singapore, seven months after their first meeting ended in controversy.
Officials confirmed the bout to ESPN.com on Tuesday. It will serve as the main event for "ONE: Pride of Lions," which takes place at Singapore Indoor Stadium. The Las Vegas Review Journal first reported the rematch.
A former Bellator MMA champion, Askren (14-0) is widely considered one of the top fighters in the world competing outside the UFC, but he struggled in the first round of a fight against Santos (61-9-1) on April 24.
The fight was ruled a no-contest midway through the first round, when Santos was unable to continue due to an accidental eye-poke. Askren, a two-time NCAA wrestling champion and U.S. Olympian, accused Santos of exaggerating the severity of the injury.
"Santos gave me his best shots in the last fight and when they didn't work, he faked the eye injury to get out of the fight," Askren stated. "I can't wait to get him in the cage again."
Fighting out of Roufusport in Milwaukee, Askren claimed the ONE 170-pound title by knocking out Nobutatsu Suzuki in August 2014.
He engaged in contract negotiations with the UFC before ultimately signing with the Asia-based promotion in late 2013.
Santos, 35, has not suffered a loss since May 2012. The Brazilian welterweight has fought professionally since 2000, compiling 35 career knockouts.
