Missouri Western State gets upset win over SIU Edwardsville
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Cole Clearman hit five 3-pointers and scored 17 points as Division II Missouri Western State stunned SIU Edwardsville 49-44 on Saturday.
Aaron Emmanuel added 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Griffons, who won the rebounding battle and held a 12-6 advantage in team assists.
Jalen Henry scored 13 for SIU Edwardsville (4-6), who had a dreadful day shooting. The Cougars finished with just 13 made field goals and hit only one of their 15 3-point attempts.
Tre Harris hit SIU Edwardsville's final basket of the game, a layup with 5:26 left, which gave the Cougars a 41-38 lead. But Missouri Western State's Tj Evans quickly responded with a layup of his own, sparking the Griffons to a 7-0 run and a 45-41 advantage.
A Henry free throw cut the Cougars' deficit back to three (47-44), but another Evans' layup put the game away.
