Army beats Colgate 79-72 in Patriot quarters
WEST POINT, N.Y. -- Tanner Plomb had 23 points, Kevin Ferguson added 19 points and 10 rebounds and No. 4 seed Army beat fifth-seeded Colgate 79-72 in the Patriot League quarterfinals Thursday night.
Plomb's free throws with 1:12 left capped an 8-2 run and gave the Black Knights (19-12) a 72-62 lead. They led by at least seven from there and advanced to Sunday's semifinals to host ninth-seeded Holy Cross. The Crusaders (12-19) upset top-seeded Bucknell Thursday night, 77-72 in double overtime.
Kyle Wilson added 16 points for the Black Knights, who took the lead for good at the 10:32 mark in the first half. Army then used a 7-0 run early in the second half to get some breathing room after Colgate (13-17) got as close at 37-36.
Jordan Swopshire and Alex Ramon had 16 points each, Austin Tillotson added 14 and Sean O'Brien 11. The Raiders trailed 64-60 with four minutes left.
