Newton, Myles combine for 49 points, Stetson bounces NJIT
NEWARK, N.J. -- Derick Newton poured in 28points, two shy of his career high, and hauled in 11 rebounds as Stetson, which won just four conference games in the regular season, bounced second-seeded NJIT 82-67 in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Sun Tournament on Tuesday night.
Newton, the A-Sun's Freshman of the Year, shot 10-for-12 from the floor, including 3-for-3 on treys while the entire NJIT team shot just 2 of 26 from 3-point range.
Divine Myles pitched in 21 points for the Hatters (11-21), Luke Doyle added 11.
Damon Lynn led the Highlanders with 24 points and Ky Howard added 13.
NJIT (17-14), in its first season of A-Sun play, had won five in a row in the first half of February, but ends on three losses in its last four games.
Seventh-seeded Stetson meets Lipscomb (12-20) on Thursday in the semifinal round after the sixth-seeded Bisons upset No. 3 seed Jacksonville, 92-89 in OT.
