NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- A.J. English scored 25 points, Deyshonee Much added 22 and Iona beat Canisius 86-78 on Sunday for its fifth straight win.
Iona (19-10, 16-4 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) entered the game having already secured the No. 2 seed into the conference tournament, and will play the winner of Thursday's Canisius-Niagara game in the quarterfinals on Friday night.
Kassius Robertson scored 24 points to lead the Golden Griffins (13-18, 8-12), who snapped a two-game win streak and enters the tournament as the seventh seed.
English was 8 of 18 from the floor and had seven assists. Much finished 7-of-10 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds.
Canisius had an 11-point lead with five minutes left before the break, and held the lead until English made a layup to put the Gaels up 53-52 with 13 minutes left.
The Golden Griffins stretched their lead back to five points before Iona used a 25-10 run and led 80-70 with 1:40 left.
