Kratch carries Santa Clara over San Jose State 78-75
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Nate Kratch shot 13 for 16 for a career-high 29 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and scored the go-ahead basket in the final minute to help Santa Clara beat San Jose State 78-75 Saturday night.
The Broncos (2-7) never trailed after halftime and led by 11 with 7:24 left. The Spartans (4-4) rallied with a 19-8 run to tie it at 74 on Frank Rogers' 3 with 1:07 to go.
Kratch scored a basket with 48 seconds left that put Santa Clara back in front, and Kai Healy added two free throws for a four-point lead with 15 seconds. Princeton Onwas made two trips to the foul line, making 1 of 3 free throws, and missed a 3 in the final 10 seconds for San Jose State.
KJ Feagin added 16 points and Matt Hubbard 12 for the Broncos.
Rogers scored 18, Cody Schwartz 15 and Onwas 11 for the Spartans.
