McNeese State beats Jarvis Christian 85-70
LAKE CHARLES, La. -- Desharick Guidry had 24 points and 11 rebounds on Friday night to lead McNeese State over NAIA Jarvis Christian 85-70.
Austin Lewis added eight points, eight rebounds and seven blocks for the Cowboys (2-1) which took the lead for good midway through the first but did not pull away until an 11-2 run made it 75-64 with 4:45 to play.
McNeese separated itself at the free-throw line, making 23 of 26 (88.5 percent). Jarvis Christian was only 3 of 6 from the line but kept the game close by shooting 9 of 13 from 3-point range and 50 percent overall.
DeWayne Wade led Jarvis Christian with 18 points, Dontae Johnson scored 13 and Deon Fisher added 12.
Jamaya Burr tied a career high with 14 points and Keelan Garrett scored 11 for McNeese which will next visit LSU on Nov. 29.
