Troy tops D-II Fort Valley State 80-63

TROY, Ala. -- Musa Abdul-Aleem scored 24 points and Troy defeated Division II Fort Valley State 80-63 on Thursday.

Troy (4-3) led 10-1 early behind a layup and 3-pointer from Abdul-Aleem. A 7-2 run later in the half pushed the lead to double digits and the Trojans held a 42-29 advantage at the break.

Fort Valley State trimmed its deficit to 10 midway through the second half after Tyrone Brinson's jumper and a pair of free throws by Derrick Spear, but Wesley Person's 3-pointer with 6:09 left put Troy up by 17 and the Trojans cruised to victory.

Kevin Thomas had 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and four blocked shots for Troy. John Walton III added 10 points and seven boards.

D'Areial Franklin paced Fort Valley State with 14 points. Brinson finished with eight points and 10 boards.
