Gardner-Webb hits 16 3-pointers, beats Longwood 87-78
FARMVILLE, Va. -- Jerome Hill made 8 of 11 shots and finished with 20 points to lead Gardner-Webb to an 87-78 victory over Longwood on Tuesday night.
Adonis Burbage hit a career-high six 3-pointers, helping Gardner-Webb go 16 of 29 (55.2 percent) from distance. The Bulldogs entered the game ranked second in the conference averaging 8.2 made 3-pointers per game.
Harold McBride and Dylan Poston had four 3s apiece for Gardner-Webb (15-9, 7-4 Big South).
McBride made all of his treys in the first half, leading Gardner-Webb to a 38-37 edge at the break. Burbage opened the second half with a 3-pointer and had another less than two minutes later to cap a 10-0 run.
Shaquille Johnson led Longwood (7-17, 3-8) with 21 points.
After trailing by as many as 18 points, Johnson hit two 3-pointers a minute apart to cut its deficit to 74-64 but couldn't get closer than eight the rest of the way.
