Cugini with 24, High Point beats Campbell 69-62
HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Lorenzo Cugini scored 24 points and High Point is off to its best start in twenty years with a 69-62 victory over Campbell on Saturday night.
High Point (12-4, 3-1 Big South) started 14-2 and finished 21-8 during the 1993-94 season.
Cugini hit a 3, sparking a 7-0 surge to give the Panthers a 61-55 lead with four minutes left. Troy Harper answered with a trey and D.J. Mason scored to pull Campbell within 61-60 with 3:07 remaining. High Point shot 6 of 6 from the line and Adam Weary made a layup to seal it.
Cugini made six 3-pointers and finished 9 of 13 from the field. John Brown added 13 points, five steals and nine rebounds for the Panthers, who had a 34-21 rebounding edge and held the Camels to just one offensive board.
Reco McCarter had 17 points to lead Campbell (7-9, 1-2).
