Providence holds off Seton Hall, 69-62
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- LaDontae Henton scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds as Providence held off Seton Hall, 69-62 in a Big East battle Saturday.
Providence (18-8, 8-5 Big East) maintained a slim but steady lead on the Pirates after Kris Dunn gave the Friars the lead on a layup with 12:09 to play in the first half.
Seton Hall (15-10, 5-8) led, 48-47, on Sterling Gibbs layup with 5:40 left, but Carson Desrosiers answered with a jumper seconds later to put the Friars on top for good.
The game was the 96th meeting between the teams and the win was the 50th by Providence in the series.
Henton was 6 of 15 from the field, but was 4 of 7 from beyond the arc and accounted for all of the Friars' made 3-pointers. Dunn added 19 points.
Isaiah Whitehead scored 20 points to lead Seton Hall.
