Montana edges Eastern Washington 77-76
CHENEY, Wash. -- Martin Breunig scored 24 points on 9-of-11 shooting and Montana edged Eastern Washington 77-76 on Saturday.
Montana (17-11, 13-4) moved a half-game ahead of Eastern Washington (21-8, 12-4) near the top of the Big Sky Conference.
Montana went up by five with 3:54 to go after a 9-1 run, including Brandon Gfeller's 3-pointer. But Bogdan Bliznyuk intercepted a pass and went the other way for an uncontested dunk, then used a spin move in the lane for another two. He missed the ensuing free throw, but EWU got the rebound, and Tyler Harvey followed with a layup to cut the deficit to one with 1:54 left.
Eastern Washington's last chance came on an inbounds play after a loose ball, but Parker Kelly's jumper from the corner didn't draw iron.
Harvey led EWU with 27 points. The Eagles scored the last five points of the first half and trailed 42-39 at the break.
