ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Jake Odum made a go-ahead layup with 33 seconds left in the game to lead Indiana State past Pepperdine 73-70 on Saturday in the consolation final of the Great Alaska Shootout.
Indiana State (5-2) was up by 2 when a 3-pointer by Malcolm Brooks gave Pepperdine (5-3) a 68-67 lead with 1:32 to play. After the two teams traded layups on the ensuing possessions, Odum's lay-in gave the Sycamores a 71-70 lead.
Malte Kramer then committed a turnover on Pepperdine's following possession and Dawon Cummings hit two free-throws for Indiana State to put the Sycamores up by 3 with 14 seconds left. Nikolas Skouen then missed what would have been a game-tying 3 at the buzzer.
Odum shot 7-of-11 from the field and finished with 16 points, while Justin Gant hit 7 of 9 from the floor and added 18 points for Indiana State. Jeremy Major led Pepperdine with 15.
