Pepperdine pushes past Portland 76-65
MALIBU, Calif. -- Lamond Murray Jr. had 16 points with eight rebounds and Stacy Davis added 14 points as Pepperdine defeated Portland 76-65 Saturday night.
The Waves (12-8, 5-3 West Coast Conference) shot 48.1 percent from the field. Malcolm Brooks scored 13 points and Jeremy Major contributed 11.
Portland (11-8, 3-4) was 22 of 54 on field goal attempts (40.7 percent), but was outrebounded 40-27. Kevin Bailey led the Pilots with 27 points and Ryan Nicholas added 14 with seven boards.
Pepperdine trailed 18-10 early, but pulled within four at the break. The Waves used a 15-4 run fueled by 3-pointers from Brooks and Nikolas Skouen to make the score to 56-44 midway through the second half.
Portland fought back to cut the deficit to five after a Bryce Pressley 3-pointer, but Pepperdine countered as a Davis jumper and two free throws by Major pushed the lead back to 10 with 4:18 left.
