Northwestern St. holds off Cent. Arkansas 76-68
CONWAY, Ark. -- Jalan West poured in 28 points to lead Northwestern State to a 76-68 win over Central Arkansas on Thursday night.
In a close match between the Southland Conference's two top-scoring teams, Northwestern State (6-11, 2-4) built the game-winning margin with an 8-0 spurt that made it 65-56 with 7 minutes to play, and then protected it down the stretch.
DeQuan Hicks contributed 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Demons, who snapped a three-game losing streak and marked their first win of the year when scoring fewer than 80 points. Marvin Frazier Jr. had 8 points and 8 rebounds in the win.
Central Arkansas (4-13, 1-5) matched the Demons with 31 points in the second half but needed to overcome a 39-31 halftime deficit.
LaQuentin Miles was the only Bears player to reach double figures, scoring 23 points and grabbing eight rebounds in the loss.
