Canisius defeats Niagara 87-74
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Billy Baron scored 31 points and Canisius defeated Niagara and its high-scoring guard, Antoine Mason, 87-74 on Wednesday night.
Baron, ranked third in the nation at 23.1, went over 30 points for the fourth time this season and seventh time in his career. Chris Perez added 19 points and Chris Manhertz 14 points and 11 rebounds for his 11th career double-double for the Golden Griffins (13-7, 7-2 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference). Canisius has now won back-to-back games over Niagara for the first time since March 2001.
Mason entered the game as the nation's leading scorer at 27.6 points per game. He finished with 29 points, his 12th consecutive game of at least 20 points dating to last season. Marvin Jordan added 19 points and Rayvon Harris 10 for the Purple Eagles (5-15, 2-7).
Canisius led 45-31 at halftime and was up by as many as 20 in the second half.
