New Mexico St turns back Bethune-Cookman 79-56
LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- Tshilidzi Nephawe scored 18 points as New Mexico State pulled away in the second half to defeat Bethune-Cookman 79-56 Monday night.
Allan Dempster's jumper in the opening minute of the second half pulled the Wildcats (2-4) into a tie at 32 but the Aggies (6-1) reeled off the next 10 points, with contributions from four different players, and steadily pulled away.
Daniel Mullings and D.K. Eldridge combined for 26 points for the Aggies, who shot 56 percent for the game and out-rebounded the Wildcats 34-22.
Bethune-Cookman, starting a 12-game road trip with four games in six days, was led by Malik Jackson with 17 points and Mikel Trapp with 14. Dempster had a career-high 10 rebounds. The Wildcats do not play a home game until Jan. 11.
New Mexico State has now won 14 straight home games. The Aggies were 17 of 22 from the foul line, B-C 3-4.
