NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Kaheem Ransom scored 20 points as Sam Houston State defeated LIU Brooklyn 82-78 Saturday night.
Jabari Peters and Nathaniel Masson each had 16 points for the Bearkats (8-4). James Thomas scored 11.
LIU Brooklyn went on a 15-5 run to start the game and led 38-37 at halftime.
Trailing by six with seven minutes left to play, the Bearkats mounted a 15-5 run of their own to take a 69-65 lead. Ransom and Peters combined for a total of six free throws in the final 40 seconds to keep the Bearkats on top for the win.
Jason Brickman led the Blackbirds (4-8) with 26 points and 13 assists, sinking 11 of 11 free throws and 3 of 3 from 3-point range.
The Blackbirds went 65 percent from the field, 69 percent from 3-point territory and 78 percent from the line but were plagued by 28 turnovers during the contest.
