Gardner-Webb trumps The Citadel 67-55
CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Donta Harper scored 13 points to lead Gardner-Webb past The Citadel 67-55 Saturday afternoon.
Tyler Strange added 11 points for the Runnin' Bulldogs (5-5), while Tyrell Nelson chipped in with 10.
The Citadel (3-8) was led by Brian White with 13 points and C.J. Bray added 11 points. The Citadel shot just 38 percent from the floor, including just 2 of 15 from beyond the arc.
Gardner Webb ran up a 9-point halftime lead while leading as much as 13 in the frame. Harper made an emphatic dunk to open the second half, but The Citadel cut the lead to 40-33 at 15:22 on Bray's jumper. They got as close as four points after a pair of free throws by Tom Koopman at 10:23, but Gardner-Webb used an 18-6 run to blow it open late in the game.
