CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Jermaine Johnson had 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the College of Charleston to a 79-70 victory over Charleston Southern on Wednesday night in the 800th game of Cougars coach Bobby Cremins' career.

Johnson finished one point shy of matching his career high and Tony White Jr. had 17 points for Charleston (3-3), who in the second half shot 59.4 percent and scored 53 points to erase a 29-26 deficit.

The Buccaneers (3-4) closed to 45-43 on a jumper by Quinton Goods, but the Cougars responded with an 11-2 run that was capped by Jeremy Simmons' three-point play that made it 56-45 with 11:49 to play.

Jamarco Warren had 21 points and Chris Moore added 15 points for the Buccaneers. Goods finished with 10 points.

Cremins improved his career record to 479-321 in 17 seasons.
