Edu Gaspar had left his role as Nottingham Forest's global head of football after having his contract terminated last week, sources have told ESPN. Gaspar did not play an active role in Forest's summer transfer window, sources told ESPN.
Edu joined Forest in July 2025 after five years with Arsenal in their backroom staff. Edu enjoyed four years as a player at Arsenal and rejoined the club as technical director in 2019 before moving into a role as the club's first sporting director in November 2022. Edu announced his resignation from Arsenal in November 2024 before joining Forest the following summer.
His remit at Forest was to "oversee all football-related functions, including recruitment, performance, squad strategy and player development."
But earlier this year in February, speculation grew over Edu's long-term future at the club after he was a notable absentee from their Premier League matches. Reports at the time in March said Edu had been told to stay away from the club and the training ground.
Sources have told ESPN his final day at the club was last week, bringing an end to a turbulent spell. Last season, Forest survived the drop from the Premier League, went through four different managers while also reaching the semifinals of the Europa League.
Edu went into a newly established leadership role at the club where he oversaw all football operations including recruitment, performance, squad strategy, and player development.
In the time Edu has been at the club, Forest appointed five different managers and narrowly avoided relegation to the Championship last season, finishing 16th and just five points above bottom three.
